Monday, October 30, 2017 –
Mohammad Mousavi, head of the board of directors of the Disability Association
of Tavana (DAT), said that the country’s authorities and members of the
parliament have no proper knowledge of the disabled people’s problems and this
lack of knowledge has prevented the ratification of the bill for supporting the
disabled people in Iranian Parliament (the Majlis) and the Guardian Council.
In a news conference on the
“Assessment of Challenges of the Ratification of the Bill for Supporting the
Disabled People” in the sideline of the 23rd Press Exhibition,
Mousavi pointed out: “Disabled people are one of the realities of our country
which are simply being ignored in our community.” “The Campaign for Supporting
the Disabled People is endeavoring to highlight the genuine needs of this group
of people and accelerate the ratification process of the bill that bolsters
them,” he continued.
Referring to the enhancement of
people’s awareness as the mechanism for tackling the problems and challenges
that prevent the ratification of the bill for supporting the disabled people,
DAT head said: “If general public recognizes the demands of the community of
disabled people, they will be able to stand beside the disabled individuals and
support them up to the materialization of their objectives.”
Elsewhere in his remarks,
Mousavi reiterated that authorities should keep the promises that they have
given to the people and remember that they have promised to stand beside the
people and understand their living conditions.
Expressing his appreciation of
the donors who establish charities for supporting the disabled people, Mousavi
suggested that people, instead of establishing such charities, stand beside
specialized associations that are working for the improvement of the living
condition of the disabled community. He emphasized that such initiatives would
encourage the authorities to be sensitive to the rights of the disabled people
and convince them that the observation of the rights of this group of citizens
would reduce the expenses of the society.
Mousavi referred to the
acceleration of the ratification of the bill for supporting the rights of the
disabled people as the most important objective of the Campaign for Supporting
the Disabled People.
