S. Clinton Hinote is a senior associate (non-resident) with the Aerospace Security Project at the Center for Strategic and International Studies. Hinote is a retired Air Force lieutenant general who served as deputy chief of staff for strategy, integration, and requirements. In this role, he led a 400-person organization that became “Air Force Futures,” which was responsible for designing the future Air Force. Hinote has extensive diplomatic experience, serving as a commander both in NATO and South Korea and serving on the Country Team at the U.S. Embassy in Baghdad, where the ambassador tapped him to act as deputy chief of mission in his absence. After retirement, he transitioned to advising, coaching, and encouraging change-oriented leaders in national security across the government, business, finance, and nonprofit sectors. General Hinote is a defense adviser to the Strategic Competitive Studies Project, a field expert at Dcode, a principal at Pallas Advisors, and a professor at the RAND School of Public Policy. General Hinote graduated first in his class at both the Air Force Academy and Air Command and Staff College. He holds a master’s in public policy from Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government and a PhD in military strategy from Air University.
