Would Regime Change Solve the Iran Challenge? | State of Play

March 4, 2026 • 3:00 – 3:30 pm EST

Brought to you by

Shortly after launching Operation Epic Fury, President Trump told Iranians that it would soon be time to "take over your government" saying it would be "probably your only chance for generations." Yet, the United States has a poor record of achieving its ambitions for long-term political change through military operations in the Middle East.

The CSIS Geopolitics and Foreign Policy Department invites you to a live episode of State of Play on the lessons from regime change operations in the Middle East and beyond on Wednesday 4 March at 3:00pm. The discussion will feature Jon Alterman, Daniel Byman, Mona Yacoubian, and Will Todman.

This event is made possible through general support to the Center for Strategic and International Studies.
