Kari Bingen

Kari A. Bingen is the Director of the Aerospace Security Project and a Senior Fellow in the Defense and Security Department at the Center for Strategic and International Studies. Her interests lie at the intersection of national security policy and technology, informed by her defense and intelligence, legislative, and private sector experiences. Kari served as the U.S. Senate-confirmed Deputy Under Secretary of Defense for Intelligence and Security, overseeing the Nation’s defense intelligence and security enterprises. She was the policy director on the House Armed Services Committee and staff lead for its Strategic Forces subcommittee, advising members of Congress on defense policy, program, and budget matters. She gained firsthand experience in the startup ecosystem as Chief Strategy Officer at HawkEye 360, an innovative space technology company, and earlier in her career specialized in national security space issues, supporting U.S. defense and intelligence community organizations. Kari is passionate about “paying it forward” as an Adjunct Associate Professor at Georgetown University. She is a member of the U.S. National Intelligence University Board of Visitors and serves on a number of corporate and non-profit advisory boards. She is a graduate of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology with a degree in aeronautics and astronautics.
