The managing director of Tavana Association announced that the statement of this association was read in the UN headquarters in Geneva for the second time.
Mohammad Reza Hadipour added that in new step, Tavana Association succeeded in providing and reading its oral statement under the Sixth item of Human Rights in the UN headquarters, according to Peike- Tavana.
He said that reading of this statements which is of great importance to the Tavana Association was made by Leila Enayati, a representative of Disability Association of Tavana which took place at the UN headquarters in Geneva at last week.
The board member of Tavana association acknowledged that countless activities in line with the UN goals development have been carried out by Tavana Association after it achieved to obtain Special Consultative Status in ECOSOC; and these goals have been in line with the goals of the association as well as interest of the people with disabilities.
“Sanctions against Iran have had a profound effect on the lives of people with disabilities, and we have addressed this issue in our statements and called on the Special Rapporteur on the Rights of People with Disabilities to consider, review and critique the consequences of sanctions on the disabled community”, Haddipour added.
Masoumeh Amedi, director of international relations at the Tavana Association also said the ECOSOC (United Nations Economic and Social Council) works precisely; so we have to send a report every four years to keep our Status.
She added if the report is not sent, our status will be suspended and we will be deprived of its benefits.
According to Amedi, this year, a four- year report of Tavana association was sent to the Council for the first time and then we were able to identify and introduce the representatives; furthermore, a report on the effect of sanctions on the lives of people with disabilities in Iran was also prepared and submitted for the Human Rights Conference.
The director of international relations of Tavana Association also stated that a written statement was sent to the United Nations before the Oral Statement, which is the third written statement of Tavana Association. A number of photographs of the disabled were also displayed at the UN Photo Exhibition, depicting the effects of sanctions on the lives of people with disabilities.
Leila Enayati, a representative of Tavana Association in reading the second statement said many Iranian organizations had participated and it was difficult to take the time to read the statement because a limited number were accepted; but we succeeded to take the time for reading the statement of Tavana Association and therefore, the valuable perspective of this association was announced at the UN headquarters.
